Explore healthcare careers at the Covenant Community Health Centre
High school students curious about a future in health care are invited to explore dozens of career paths at the upcoming high school healthcare career expo. The free event takes place Thursday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covenant Community Health Centre.
A chance to explore healthcare careers
The expo brings together more than 20 healthcare professions under one roof, giving students a unique opportunity to learn about career options they may not have known existed.
"It's a really great opportunity for students to meet over 20 different professionals in one room and learn what it's like working in their field," says Jayna Welch, talent acquisition advisor with Covenant Health.
Students will have the chance to connect with professionals in physical therapy, occupational therapy, diagnostic imaging, pharmacy, dentistry, audiology, speech language pathology, recreation therapy, facilities maintenance and many other areas.
Hands-on learning
The expo will include more than information booths. Interactive skill stations will give students a taste of what working in health care actually looks like.
"We want students to walk away feeling inspired," says Jayna. "When you can actually try something hands-on and talk to someone who does the job every day, it makes these careers feel real and achievable."
Students will also have the opportunity to tour real clinic spaces within the Community Health Centre and see first hand what a modern healthcare environment looks like.
Meet professionals from the building
Some of the professionals at the expo will be current tenants of the Covenant Community Health Centre, including representatives from Amplify Hearing Clinic, Arch Dental, Cornerstone Counselling, MIC Medical Imaging and more.
"Having our own tenants participate makes this event special," says Jayna. "Students can meet these professionals and then look around and see the actual spaces where they work. It brings everything to life."
Learn about education pathways
In addition to meeting working professionals, students will learn about the education pathways for dozens of healthcare roles. Whether a student is interested in a two-year diploma program or a longer university degree, the expo will help them understand the steps to get there.
"Health care needs passionate people," says Jayna. "We want to show students that there's a place for them in this field, no matter what their interests or strengths are."
No registration required
The expo is free and open to all high school students. No registration is required. Students can drop in anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
