This statement reflects our obligations under Alberta’s Health Information Act (HIA), Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and Access to Information Act (ATIA).

Who we are

Covenant Health is a publicly funded Catholic health care organization, a custodian of health information under HIA and a public body under POPA. We provide acute care, continuing care, community care, research and support services across Alberta.

When we say “we,” “us,” or “our,” we mean Covenant Health.

What information this statement covers

This statement applies to:

  • health information (information about your physical or mental health, health services you receive, or eligibility for care)

  • personal information (information about an identifiable individual)

Examples include:

  • name, address, contact details

  • Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan number

  • medical history, test results, diagnoses

  • care plans and treatment records

  • employee and physician information (where applicable)

This statement does not replace more specific notices you may receive in certain programs or care settings, such as research consent forms.

How we handle your information

Online privacy

Any information collected (such as the Internet Protocol address assigned by your Internet service provider, the settings of the web browser installed on your computer and pages accessed on our website) may be used internally by Covenant Health in an aggregate form, to help manage and improve the content of the website and to diagnose technical problems of the website, with the objective to better serve you

The Covenant Health website uses cookies to collect anonymous statistical information such as browser type, screen size, traffic patterns and pages visited. This information helps provide better service. Covenant Health does not store personal information in cookies. You can change the settings on your web browser to deny cookies if desired.

This website contains links to other sites. Covenant Health is not responsible for the content and privacy policies of other websites. It is recommended that you read their privacy statements to find out how they track and use your information.

Your rights

You have the right to request*:

  • access to records we hold about you

  • corrections, if information is inaccurate or incomplete

  • manuals, handbooks and other guidelines used by Covenant Health employees in decision-making processes that affect the public are available without making a formal access request

  • if the information you are seeking is not available through routine disclosure, you may submit a formal access request under the Access to Information Act and we will respond in accordance with legislated timelines and requirements

*Some access may be limited as permitted by law (for example, information subject to legal privilege or third‑party privacy).

Please note that all complaints must be submitted in writing. If your concern is not resolved, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
