Construction update - May-June 2024

As the Covenant Health Community approaches the one-year mark until opening, the project continues to hit major milestones.

In early May, our Operational Readiness Team hosted a mockup room review day with Bird for some of the key stakeholders involved in the CHC project. These mockup rooms are typical exam and procedure rooms designed to allow clinical and project teams to review and evaluate accessibility, space utilization, and navigation before construction continues.

Recently, I was given the opportunity to don my PPE and tour the under-construction Community Health Centre (CHC), part of the Covenant Wellness Community (CWC). This project aims to provide Edmontonians with a one-stop shop campus for health and wellness, providing an integrated approach to community health services. As someone who was involved in the early planning work for CWC, I am amazed and excited to see the vision materialize. The building has a beautiful design, featuring large glass windows and a grand staircase right when you walk in. Touring the space, it’s clear that careful attention was paid to wayfinding to support patients. From color-coded pathways to well-designed maps, every aspect is thoughtfully planned to enhance the patient experience.

One of the architectural highlights of the building is the main feature staircase, and installation of the steel frame was completed mid-May. It will serve as an attractive gathering place in the main lobby for patients, staff and visitors and utilize the natural lighting in the space.

The exterior of the building is nearly complete, and landscaping will begin to take place over the summer. You can see recent drone footage below.
